On July 11, 2023, MARAMA held a demonstration webinar on WESTAR/WRAP’s Exceptional Events (EE) tool with its architects, Melissa Maestas and Ranil Dhammapala of South Coast AQMD. With the wildfire smoke that most, if not all, of us have experienced this summer, the tool and demo are very timely. A recording of the demo is available at the link below.

EE Demo Recording

The purpose of this tool is to quasi-automate some of the tasks involved in preparing an EE Demonstration for submission to the EPA. Use of this tool in no way guarantees EPA concurrence for any EE demo submitted to the EPA. EE demos created using this tool are subject to the same review process as EE demos that do not use this tool. This interactive tool lays the groundwork for automating much of the technical data collection required in EE Demonstrations. This online tool is a collaborative project among air quality regulatory agencies. It is, and will continue to be, a work in progress. If you are interested in using the tool and/or contributing to this project, please contact Rhonda Payne at WESTAR or Jay Baker at WESTAR. The tool is an R Shiny app, and both R coders and non-coders are welcome to contribute.
