The rapid growth of data centers has created significant challenges for many air regulators around the country, particularly due to their ongoing and emergency energy demands. In just the mid-Atlantic region alone, energy demand from data centers is expected to increase by over 1,700 MW per year. To help air agencies understand the challenges posed by these facilities, MARAMA is hosting a 4-part webinar series on Data Centers and Air Quality.
Session 1: Introduction to Data Centers
What are data centers and why do they matter to air regulators? During this first session, our presenters from VA Department of Environmental Quality and MD Department of the Environment will provide a broad overview of the types and uses of data centers, the history of their development, and their potential impacts to air quality.
